Woodlawn Alternative Waste Technology Facilities

Environment & Community
The Woodlawn Alternative Waste Technology (AWT) facilities will produce a compost product that will be used to help remediate the degraded mining lands at Woodlawn. Metals, glass, plastics and organics will be recycled and re-used, reducing the demand for materials required to produce these products. The recovery of recycled materials and the diversion of waste from landfill will help reduce the greenhouse gas impact of waste disposal in NSW.

Within the facilities themselves, water will be completely recycled. Modelling shows that odour will not travel beyond the Woodlawn property boundary. Residual material from the facilities can be accepted by the adjacent Woodlawn Bioreactor landfill. This will ensure that there will be no pollution of air, land or water during normal day to day operation of the proposed AWT facilities. Aspects of the proposal being assessed as a part of the Environmental Assessment include:
  1. Site context
  2. Air Quality and Odour
  3. Water Management
  4. Noise
  5. Traffic
  6. Community
