Woodlawn Alternative Waste Technology Facilities

The site
Map of the proposed Woodlawn Alternative Waste Technology Facility site. Collex proposes to build the Woodlawn Alternative Waste Technology Facilities within the Woodlawn Eco-Precinct site. Woodlawn is a former mine site located 250km south-west of Sydney, about halfway between Goulburn and Canberra, and is now owned by Collex. The site is within both Goulburn-Mulwaree and Palerang Local Government Areas.

The Woodlawn Eco-Precinct is already home to the Woodlawn Bioreactor, a landfill which has been operating since September 2004. The Bioreactor receives waste from Sydney, which is transported to the site by rail. The Woodlawn Bioreactor processes waste to produce biogas, which is used to generate renewable electricity.

The Woodlawn Alternative Sorting and Processing facility (WASP) and Woodlawn Composted Organics and Greenwaste (WOCOG) facility are Collex's next resource recovery activities at the Woodlawn Eco-Precinct. Access to the facility will be via a new entrance from Collector Road.

Other projects under development at Woodlawn include a 50MW windfarm, and rehabilitation of the Woodlawn mine site using composted organic material from the WASP and WOCOG facilities.
