Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management
Years with Umwelt:
James has eight years’ experience as an ecologist, primarily focusing on fauna surveys, threatened species assessments and habitat assessments, which have been conducted for mining, infrastructure and government sectors.
James is experienced in coordinating, designing and conducting fauna and flora surveys for several environmental assessments, annual monitoring projects and due diligence surveys throughout the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, Sydney, western Blue Mountains and western and central NSW. James enjoys the working in the outdoors conducting ecological fieldwork, which has resulted in James becoming highly experienced in a diverse range of terrestrial and aquatic fauna and flora survey techniques. In addition to collecting ecological data, James has a strong background in interpreting and analysing data using a range of statistical methods.
Outside of Umwelt, James is continuing on finalising his PhD thesis on determining the threatening processes of a threatened amphibian species. This work involved using a variety of methods in analysing the data collected from a diversity of surveys including mark-recapture analysis, molecular prey detection, disease, habitat use, movement and radio-tracking, which forms part of a large-scale monitoring program. When he’s not writing his thesis, James spares much of his spare time bushwalking and hiking.
