Years with Umwelt:
Bill has eight years’ experience in ecological and environmental consulting. Primarily working as a botanical ecologist, he spent more than three years working in Victoria prior to spending the last five years in New South Wales. He is experienced in coordinating, designing and conducting flora and fauna surveys for a range of different projects, primarily focusing on flora surveys, vegetation community mapping and description. He is particularly experienced in undertaking biometric surveys for BioBanking, Biocertification and Framework for Biodiversity Assessment (FBA) projects in New South Wales as well as Habitat Hectare Assessment projects in Victoria. Bill has worked on a number of major project vegetation assessments across a wide area, and he has largely focussed on flora surveys and vegetation community mapping, including the collection of data for the EPBC Act offset calculator, for the purposes of ecological impact and biodiversity offset strategy assessments throughout the Hunter Valley, Central West, Southern Tablelands and South Coast of New South Wales.
He has considerable experience in threatened species assessment, particularly for threatened flora species and ecological communities listed under the EPBC Act and TSC Act, and preparing EPBC Act Referrals for nationally listed species and ecological communities for large -scale developments in New South Wales. Bill has also undertaken long-term vegetation monitoring, rehabilitation monitoring, vegetation community change monitoring, saltmarsh and freshwater wetland monitoring, and mangrove forest monitoring.
Outside of Umwelt, Bill likes his time in the kitchen with the most recent challenges being homemade sourdough and slow-cooked meats using charcoal (not in the kitchen).
