Industry focus on Strategic Assessments – ACT
On 14 March, Karina Carwardine (Principal – Environmental Impact Assessment) and Caitlin Adcock (Environmental Planner) from Umwelt’s Canberra office attended the EIANZ ACT Division Impact Assessment Forum held at the ANU. The forum featured a range of presentations concerning environmental policy and practice relating to impact assessment. The presentations covered national, regional and local issues, including major projects, infrastructure, strategic assessments, and compliance. Example activities presented included cattle saleyards, wind farms, motor sports and military exercises. In light of Umwelt’s extensive experience in environmental impact assessment, particularly with our clients in urban development, linear infrastructure and Defence, the forum provided us with an insight into the increased focus on strategic assessment within the industry. Umwelt is encouraged by this increased focus, having already prepared a number of strategic assessments under the EPBC Act in the Canberra region. The forum was highly engaging, and we look forward to ongoing participation in EIANZ events.
