Kundabung to Kempsey Pacific Highway Upgrade

Umwelt recently provided an Environmental Advisor to the McConnell Dowell OHL Joint Venture during 2017 to assist with completion of the Roads and Maritime Services’ Kundabung to Kempsey Pacific Highway Upgrade.

The Project involved upgrading approximately 14 kilometres of the Pacific Highway to a four lane divided road between Barrys Creek in Kundabung and the South Kempsey Interchange. Additionally, the Project also required the building of the interchange at Kundabung Road, new intersections for local access roads, bus stops and new rest areas at Barrys Creek.

Umwelt’s Environmental Advisor utilised their extensive experience and onsite construction environmental management skills to ensure full compliance with the project environmental approvals, permits and the Environment Protection Licence (EPL); and to provide technical advice and support while meeting the RMS specifications.

Key tasks included water, air and noise monitoring for the Project, reporting results to the EPA, developing and implementing Erosion and Sediment Controls Plans, and provision of waste management strategies reflecting recent legislative changes. The Environmental Advisor provided support in obtaining Development Applications with the local Councils and the management of obtaining and processing material disposal approvals. The Project officially opened to traffic in September 2017, after three years of construction.
