Lake Macquarie City Council Aboriginal Heritage Impact Assessments
Recently Umwelt has undertaken a number of Aboriginal Heritage Impact Assessments (AHIA) for private landholders undertaking residential developments within Lake Macquarie City Council (LMCC) LGA. This work has arisen as LMCC has identified that parts of the area of these projects fall within a Sensitive Aboriginal Cultural Landscape as defined under the LMCC Local Environmental Plan (LEP-2014) and mapped within the Lake Macquarie Aboriginal Heritage Management Strategy.
These AHIA’s are to be used to support Development Applications (DA) to LMCC mainly for the construction of new residential dwellings, the alteration of existing dwellings or the addition of new infrastructure. These assessments have been completed with reference to the Due Diligence Code of Practice for the Protection of Aboriginal Objects in New South Wales (DECCW 2010a). The timely completion of these assessments has allowed Umwelt’s clients to progress their development applications without further delay.
