Steel River Concrete Batching Plant EIS

Hanson Construction Materials engaged Umwelt to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the construction of a new 170,000 m3 / 410,000 tonnes per annum concrete batching plant in Mayfield West NSW. The project was a brownfield development located on former BHP land close to the Hunter River.

The site had several constraints including legacy contamination issues, noise-sensitive neighbours and site-specific environmental and development controls that required consideration.

Umwelt worked with Hanson to identify appropriate water management, noise mitigation, landscaping and traffic management measures to achieve compliance with State, Council and site-specific requirements. This included input to the redesign of some aspects of the site.

The designated development application and EIS were approved by Newcastle City Council providing Hanson with the opportunity to consolidate local operations to this facility.
