Umwelt Hosts Forum on Australia’s Climate Change Policy Options
During April 2016 Umwelt welcomed the Climate Change Authority and Hunter business leaders to our Newcastle office for a forum on Australia’s Climate Change Policy options. The forum was a part of stakeholder consultations by the Climate Change Authority on key issues raised in the second stage of its Special Review on Australia’s Climate Change Policy Options.
The Special Review was requested by the federal Minister for the Environment to:
- Provide recommendation on emissions targets (completed)
- Assess whether Australia should have an emissions trading scheme
- Recommend action Australia should take to implement outcomes from the Paris Agreement.
Angela Hoefnagels, the Climate Change Authority’s Review Director, presented an overview of the findings of the review to date, focusing on Australia’s commitments, the policy toolkit approach being taken internationally, and what tools can be applied in the Australian context.
The forum was attended by Hunter business leaders and key personnel from Umwelt’s Environment and Community team, including principal consultants specialising in renewable energy, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas, climate change adaptation and policy.
