A new Coastal Framework for NSW
This month Umwelt hosted the Planning Institute Association (PIA) Hunter Branch’s recent regional event, A New Coastal Framework. The event focused on the new NSW Coastal Management legislation, delivering a greater understanding of the legislative changes, implications of the new framework for policymakers, planning and environmental practitioners. The new framework aims to have thriving and resilient coastal communities living and working on a healthy coast, now and into the future.
Speakers for the event included Pam Dean-Jones, Manager Communities & Landscapes, of Umwelt. Pam was part of a small team tasked with the preparation of the new coastal management manual for NSW. Bruce Coates – Senior Leader, Coasts Estuaries and Floodplains, Office of Environment and Heritage provided an overview of the coastal reform process, the key elements of the new framework and further guidance that will be prepared over time to assist local councils.
The event was well attended and provided an opportunity for participants to broaden their knowledge of coastal planning.
